Letter from the Founder

I am back in Ghana as I write to you. This is my 33rd year that I have traveled to what I consider my “second home.” It is just past the rainy season and the flood waters have dried up. We are repairing the damage thanks to you our generous donors, but we still have more need. Our school has grown faster than our building space will accommodate. The next term starts in September, so we need to build three more classrooms. We can start part of the three-story school building, so we can continue to add to it as funding allows.

Our work is not about buildings which we need but it’s about children. I’m always rejuvenated spiritually and emotionally when I’m with our children. They show me so much love. It is almost like an infusion of passion that empowers me to keep pressing on joyfully with the vision we carry.

Let me tell you about one of our children so that you will pray for her. Mary is 17 years old. She lived with her grandmother as her father left early on and her mother was an alcoholic. One day, a man showed up at her granny’s house and said he was the father, and the mother confirmed. He took her, but then went on sexually abuse her but no one would believe her. The father took her phone and beat her. Even her pastor would not listen. Finally, she escaped and got to the hospital after being forced to take abortion medication. The doctor brought her to the police, the police to social Welfare, and social welfare to us. To date the father is still not in jail as we know it.

Mary cried with me yesterday as she shared her story. I asked if she felt safe and loved at our home, and she smiled and thanked me for all we have done for her. God gave me a word for her today and I told her that God sees her as a virgin, pure and faultless and not to be ashamed.

This is just one of the children that you were helping. They all have their life stories to date, but with your help we’re changing their stories for the future. Thank you so much for helping the Marys in this world.

God bless you!
