Inaugural Oklahoma Golf Tournament for the Orphans will support vulnerable children in Ghana, Uganda and India and honor the legacy of Tulsa’s Kelly Bishop
TULSA, Okla. (October 21, 2026) — Hearts of the Father Outreach will bring its Golf Tournament for the Orphans to Tulsa for the first time on Monday, November 2, 2026, continuing a 21-year fundraising tradition established in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. The inaugural Oklahoma tournament at Meadowbrook Country Club will bring together golfers, community supporters and out-of-town guests to raise funds for vulnerable children in Ghana, Uganda and Southern India.
The tournament will begin with a noon shotgun start at Meadowbrook Country Club, located at 9300 E. 81st Street in Tulsa. Participants can register for the golf scramble or attend the evening dinner to hear from Hearts of the Father Outreach founder and president John Moritz. Key sponsors include Nathan Nitchals, founder of Tulsa-based Mission Minded Franchising, and platinum sponsor Ryan Broyles, a former University of Oklahoma and Detroit Lions wide receiver who set the NCAA FBS career receptions record during his senior season at OU. Broyles also co-founded Broyles Real Estate Group with his wife, Mary Beth.
A Mission Born from Tragedy
John and Libby Moritz founded Hearts of the Father Outreach after losing their three children in a car accident in January 1992. In the aftermath, they felt led to establish a ministry serving children in need.
“After losing our three children in a car accident, Libby and I began searching for our purpose. We felt called to serve children in need and knew our lives were meant to go into the nations to love and help children who had no mommies and no daddies. That calling became Hearts of the Father Outreach, which today provides homes, family placement programs and support for those serving vulnerable children around the world,” said John Moritz, president and founder of Hearts of the Father Outreach.
The organization’s primary purpose is to establish homes of refuge for children with physical, psychological and spiritual needs in a loving and Godly environment. Through participation in the tournament, supporters help provide education, care and brighter futures for children who would otherwise have no hope. Over its 31-year history, Hearts of the Father Outreach has raised more than $6 million and provided $2.5 million in material goods, with 90% of monetary donations going directly to its international programs and 10% covering in-country operating expenses. Proceeds from the inaugural Tulsa golf tournament will support completion of the organization’s flagship three-story school in Old Ningo, Ghana.
“I am excited about expanding into the Southwest with Tulsa, Oklahoma, and look forward to participating in the Golf Tournament for the Orphans to raise money for some of the neediest children in the world. What a great event!” Moritz added.
“The vision of Hearts of the Father Outreach was birthed out of triumph over tragedy,” said Blake Fite, Southwest director of Hearts of the Father Outreach. “I first met John and Libby at a conference about a decade ago, and I’m excited to bring this established 21-year philanthropic tradition to my hometown of Tulsa – a generous community that consistently steps up to support meaningful causes.”
John and Libby Moritz Lifetime Achievement Award
The evening will include the presentation of the John and Libby Moritz Lifetime Achievement Award to the late Kelly Bishop. Her husband, Tulsa-area high school football coach Adam Bishop, will accept the award on her behalf in recognition of her commitment to serving disadvantaged children and caring for “the least of these,” as described in Matthew 25:40.
Bishop demonstrated her faith with action. She spent a year in Jerusalem teaching the Bible in English, participated in mission trips with her husband and served as a foster parent for four years. The award will honor her legacy of faith, compassion and service to children in need.
Registration information for the golf scramble and/or evening dinner are available here.
